Izzy PR’s Michelle Jackson has been clocking up the miles this month in preparation for The Thames Moonlight 10 Walk in memory of her grandmother, with half of all funds raised going towards our charity client, Holding On Letting Go (HOLG).
Child bereavement charity, HOLG, supports children and their families before and after the death of a loved one. Based in Kent, HOLG is currently celebrating its 25th year, and the Izzy PR team has worked with the charity for a number of years, providing PR and marketing services, including pro bono support. We’ve also recently launched their new website which underwent a huge revamp to improve resources, information and accessibility.
As well as working with HOLG, Michelle received support and advice from them to help her children when her grandmother, Anne, – their great grandmother – suddenly died in 2021.
Taking place on Friday 8th September, the event will see Michelle setting off on a ten mile walk through the heart of London as darkness falls, starting and ending at The Kia Oval, Vauxhall.
Michelle explains why she chose to take part: “My nan’s death was an awful shock to the whole family; trying to support my children who were just 7 and 11 at the time while managing my own and very much all-consuming grief was very difficult. HOLG’s advice helped me break the news to them, talk to them about the funeral and help them decide whether they wanted to attend, and find the words to comfort them when they are missing her and feeling sad.
“Through working with them, I’ve spoken with many other families they’ve helped and they have all found their support invaluable during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
“Nan always loved London so taking part in this event seems a fitting tribute to her. She was also affected by cancer in her lifetime so I’ve decided to split the funds I raise between HOLG and Cancer Research UK.”
