Child bereavement charity Holding On Letting Go (HOLG) is inviting would-be volunteers to a recruitment event in Canterbury to find out more about the charity and opportunities to get involved.
The event, on Thursday 16th March at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, is an opportunity to learn more about HOLG’s work in supporting bereaved children across Kent and the South east.
They help families and schools, giving advice, support and training, plus they hold monthly bereavement support weekends, and parent and carer groups for families when a child is grieving the death of someone close.
Families facing a terminal diagnosis can also be supported before a bereavement occurs.
The charity offers full training and ongoing support to volunteers in various roles from helping with admin, fundraising events, providing transportation, serving food and drink at events; volunteers are also needed in support roles at the bereavement weekends.
Anyone looking to donate their time, either a lot or a little, regularly or ad-hoc, is welcome to drop in and meet the team at the event next week, which has been funded by Global’s Make Some Noise.
Holding On Letting Go CEO Caroline Ford adds:
“Our volunteers really are the backbone of HOLG and without them, we simply couldn’t continue to provide the level of support that we offer to families.
“From driving families to and from our bereavement weekends, to helping support children on a one-to-one basis; every minute of their time goes towards ensuring a grieving child gets the help they need.
“Whether you are able to offer a few days every month, or just a few hours, we have so many opportunities for you to make a real difference to children – plus we are a very nice charity to work with!
“This event is a great way for anyone interested in volunteering to have an informal chat with us over a cuppa and a biscuit to see how they can play an invaluable part in our team.”
Details for the drop-in event are:
Thursday 16th March, 2pm -7.30pm, Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, The Precincts, Canterbury, Kent CT1 2EH.
