It’s what everyone’s talking about so why not use the World Cup to piggy back your PR on?
It’s a game of two halves – those who do and those who don’t!
If you were savvy, you thought about it a few months ago and used some World Cup spin on your PR to link in with one of the biggest sporting events this year.
No-one knew England would get this far but World Cup fever is big no matter how far they get each time so it’s an idea to plan a campaign ahead of it.
If you didn’t, don’t worry – just look ahead and find another event or date to hook your PR on. September/October is the time to start thinking about Jingle Bells…!
Also to note, is that if you have no interest in football, for example, it might look a bit odd if you suddenly jump on the theme as part of your PR – stay true to yourself and your brand!
Here are a few ways to hook your products / services onto an event or seasonal theme.
Products:
If you sell products, are you able to print a special edition version? Maybe for sale but definitely for give-aways to promote your brand.
Merchandise:
Print some event-related merchandise that links in. For example, little branded footballs would have been ideal for the World Cup!
Special offers:
Run a special offer campaign to link in with the event
Social media:
Change your images to add an element of the event – something Christmassy at Christmas, or summery in the summer! It freshens up your profiles and timelines, showing you’re current too!
Website:
A great time to freshen up your website with seasonal graphics or even a blog.
PR:
Can your company offer any editorial around PR? I’ve seen HR companies offer them on how to handle time off requests for the World Cup, wellbeing ones about how to handle stress and others about travelling to watch the games.
If you can add some expert comment to link in with something seasonal, you’ve got a great chance at getting some free editorial!
And there you go – a quick run-down! Give me a shout if you wanted a more in-depth chat about planning your PR around an event.
