When you post regularly, you reach people without seeing them. You can reach new and old contacts and both could be vital to your business.

The new ones will find out about you and the established ones will be reminded of you, refer you or even think about becoming a client themselves.

Social media – quick tips for big improvements

Let’s look at social media. Many of us are on there, juggling timelines and trying to keep up with filling them with content, but it’s tricky when there are lots of other things to do, plus you have to find some creativity too!

But…go one step back from your content and take a look at how your social media looks to the outside world.

The first thing to think is – are you on the right social media platforms? You may be posting on some that aren’t working for your business, or missing a trick on one that you’re not on.

Are your cover photos relevant to your business? Cover photos are the large background images. If you’re a removals company, then a photo of a summer’s meadow doesn’t relate. If you’re in catering, then use a photo of your own food – a nice quality one that screams ‘eat me, book me, delicious’!

Make sure your photos are quality and relevant – having people in them also helps if your business is lifestyle or people-focussed.

Most of us are also using a personal Facebook page and it’s important to keep your profile picture (the smaller one) as a professional-looking shot of your face. The reason for this is that when you post into groups, you can’t post as your business, only your personal page, so having your kids or pets in it will not only look unprofessional, but people won’t see your face and be reminded of who you are if you’ve only met once or twice before.

They also won’t know what you look like if they meet you for the first time in the future having only seen you on social media up to that point.

Check all the settings are filled in – I can’t tell you how many Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts I look at that don’t have this information filled in. You need to, so that people know who you, what you do and how to contact you.

And my final tip – don’t automate Facebook to Twitter – it doesn’t work! It was set up to save time but all that happens is your Facebook posts appear on your Twitter timeline as a series of text posts and without any images or video, it just looks very boring and not at all engaging – which is of course, what you want it to be!

These are just a few quick and easy tweaks can take a social media account from OK to great.
